Rajiv Silgardo – Chief Executive Officer
Rajiv has more than 26 years of experience in the investment industry in the area of quantitative active and index fund management. Prior to joining the BMO team, Rajiv was at Barclays Global Investors Canada Ltd. for 14 years and served as President & CEO as well as Chief Investment Officer most recently. He is a past member of the TSX Trading Advisory Committee and of the Board of Governors of the Bishop Strachan School. Rajiv currently serves on the Advisory Board at Ryerson University's Ted Rogers School of Business. He holds a Masters of Commerce from Delhi University, India, an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a CFA Charterholder.
Kevin Gopaul – Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer
Kevin's vast industry experience in global Index and Active strategies is a key asset to the ETF team. Prior to joining BMO, Kevin served as Principal, Portfolio Manager at Barclays Global Investors Canada Ltd where he played an integral role in overseeing the management of $11 billion in Exchange Traded Funds and Institutional mandates. In addition to his current responsibilities at BMO Asset Management Inc., Kevin continues to be an active participant in the financial services industry, serving as a member of the Standard & Poor's Advisory Panel, and the Dow Jones Global Index Committee. Kevin studied Economics, Finance and Computer Science at the University of Waterloo.
Rob Bechard – Senior Vice President and Head of Portfolio Management
Rob serves as the head of equity and fixed income portfolio management and has been developing and managing ETFs since 2002. Prior to joining BMO, Rob worked at Barclays Global Investors where he worked for seven years as a fixed income portfolio manager at offices in Toronto and London, England. Rob has also worked extensively on synthetic equity and currency hedged portfolios. Rob holds a BSc in mathematics from Queen's University, an MSc in mathematical trading and finance from City University Business School in London, England, and is a CFA Charterholder.
Mark Raes – Vice President and Head of ProductMark is responsible for overseeing the product suite for BMO ETFs, and also serves as an operational specialist to the BMO ETF team. He was previously a portfolio manager for ETFs, primarily responsible for fixed income. Mark has worked in the Exchange Traded Funds Industry since 2004. His past work has involved overseeing performance measurement at Mackenzie Financial Corp. and fund operations for BGI Canada at Investor's Bank & Trust. He holds a BBA in Finance from Wilfrid Laurier University, an MBA from York University, and is a CFA Charterholder.
Raymond Chan – Vice President and Portfolio ManagerRaymond has more than ten years of experience in the investment industry and currently serves as an equity portfolio manager and currency hedging specialist. Prior to joining BMO, Raymond served as a portfolio manager at Barclays Global Investors where he was responsible for managing all equity ETFs, including one of Canada's largest, while also co-managing the indexed, hedged and balanced portfolios of institutional clients. Raymond holds a BA in economics, an FRM designation, and is a CFA Charterholder.
Chris McHaney – Vice President and Portfolio ManagerChris has more than fourteen years of experience in the investment industry and currently serves as portfolio manager for derivative-based and equity-based portfolios. He has taken on numerous roles since joining BMO in 2002, including Manager of Investments for BMO Asset Management Inc. where he was responsible for mutual fund manager monitoring and selection. In this role, he was also responsible for overseeing the currency hedging program across the mutual fund platform. Chris holds a BBA from York University's Schulich School of Business and is a CFA Charterholder.
Alfred Lee – Vice President, Portfolio Manager & Investment StrategistAlfred is a portfolio manager on the BMO ETFs & Global Structured Investments team where he manages fixed income and preferred shares related mandates. In addition, he manages a liquid alternatives strategy that uses ETFs and develops tactical macro-related strategies using ETFs exclusively. As part of the BMO ETF team, Alfred is involved with portfolio design and construction. Prior to joining BMO, Alfred spent four years at a Canadian brokerage providing ETF Research & Strategy, while simultaneously providing coverage on commodities, foreign exchange and international macro. He also spent four years at a pension consulting and analytics group. Alfred is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario, majoring in economics. He is a CFA Charterholder, and holds the CMT and DMS designations.
Chris Heakes – Portfolio ManagerChris joined the BMO ETF portfolio management team in 2011, focusing on equity and covered-call portfolios. His several years of industry experience includes a role as a quantitative equity research associate, and work in investment funds product and client support. Chris holds a Masters of Finance from the University of Toronto, Rotman School of Management (Dean's List), where he studied investments, including derivatives and derivative pricing. Chris also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo, with studies in History and Mathematics, and is a CFA Charterholder.
Alain Desbiens – Vice President, Quebec & AtlanticAlain brings more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry to his role as BMO ETF specialist for eastern Canada. A seasoned financial expert with experience as a broker, Alain has been instrumental in raising awareness of the benefits of ETFs to individual, retail and institutional clients through his facilitation of client seminars. He has also played an equally pivotal role in keeping portfolio managers in eastern Canada and Quebec aware of new developments in the ETF sphere. Prior to joining BMO, Alain worked as wholesaler and sales manager in the wealth distribution field, as well as a branch manager and investment advisor in the brokerage industry. Alain is a graduate of Laval University with a BA in Industrial Relations.
Sam DiTella – Vice President, National AccountsAs Vice President, National Accounts at BMO Asset Management Inc. Sam is responsible for developing and maintaining key relationships in the Canadian retail and institutional markets. He works with Portfolio Managers, ETF Analysts, Product Managers and Investment Dealers to effectively integrate BMO exchange traded products into their business. Sam has over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry, ranging from institutional pension, retail mutual funds, insurance segregated funds and ETFs. He is a graduate of Guelph University in Management Economics and has been with BMO Asset Management Inc. since 2009.
Justin Oliver – Vice President, InstitutionalJustin has more than 10 years of experience in the investment industry, specializing in capital markets and finance. Prior to joining the BMO team, Justin was a director at Fraser Mackenzie for 3 years where he served as the Global Head of Institutional Equity Sales. Prior to that he was with Canaccord Genuity Corp. for 7 years as a V.P. Institutional Equity Sales. He currently acts as a board member for Selwyn Resources and began his career at KPMG. Justin has a Chartered Accountant (CPA) designation and holds a B.A.C.S. from the University of Western Ontario, Huron College in Finance and Economics. Justin also holds his PDO, CSC and CPH.
Kevin Prins – Vice President, OntarioWith more than 18 years of industry experience in banking, securities, mutual funds and financial education, Kevin provides a rare combination of both industry knowledge and educational expertise on Exchange Traded Funds. During his career he has authored several investment industry courses for the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI), including the recent development of an ETF focused course. Kevin frequently interacts with portfolio managers and investors about the benefits of ETFs and how they can be used to add value to any investment portfolio. He is a regular contributor to investment industry publications and has also been a guest speaker and panellist at industry events. He has also appeared several times on BNN. Kevin has an MBA from Dalhousie University and holds a number of industry designations including FCSI, CIM and CFP.
Daniel Stanley – Vice President, OntarioDanielís 15 years of experience in the capital markets industry includes positions in sales and investment management in Toronto and New York City. During his 7 years at CIBC World Markets he developed expertise in helping advisors use structured products and foreign exchange solutions. He managed global currency exposure at Bloomberg LP, and previously held a role as an investment advisor at RBC Dominion Securities, where he advised clients on security selection and portfolio management. Daniel's consultative approach to working with investors is well suited to increasing the awareness of BMO ETFs among retail and institutional clients. Daniel is a CFA Charterholder and holds a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from McGill University.
Mark Webster – Vice President, Western CanadaMark is the BMO ETF team's representative for Western Canada. With over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, Mark has covered many diverse forms of financial risk. He began his career as a professional indemnity broker, becoming a vice president at Minet International Professional Indemnity Ltd. (now part of AON), conducting risk analysis for the Big 8 global accounting firms, as well as some of the top U.S. law firms. He is responsible for overseeing the proliferation of ETFs throughout Canada's vast western region and providing support to portfolio managers from the Pacific (Duncan B.C.), to the Lakehead (Thunder Bay, Ontario). He has worked as a retail investment advisor with RBC DS; in the mutual fund industry with First Trust Portfolios; and has held several other positions in the pension industry. He brings with him a Masterís degree in Russian History from McGill University and several CSI accreditations.
